Lost Astronaut Studios is now on Printables!

Lost Astronaut Studios

Captain Poopypants back at the keyboard!

When most people think of Lost Astronaut Studios, they think of space code, digital explosions, and pushing pixels until our eyes bleed. But surprise! We don't just live in the digital realm. It turns out we also love tactile, physical things that you can actually drop on a table and accidentally step on in the middle of the night.

That’s right—we are officially branching out into the physical tabletop universe. We are incredibly excited to lift the curtain on a massive, long-term passion project: Lusus Belli.

To get started, we're focusing on LususTech, a set of 60mm hex compatible terrains and objects that work with non-hex style games like BattleTech Alpha Strike.

What is LususTech™?

Lusus Belli is our upcoming, ambitious all-time, all-genre wargaming framework. Whether you want to command historical phalanxes, futuristic hover-tanks, or lumbering bipedal death machines, this project is designed to bridge the gaps between eras and universes.

But a great wargame needs great battlefields. Instead of making you wait for a massive rulebook to drop, we decided to roll out the vanguard of this project right now through the power of 3D printing. We’ve kicked things off by designing and publishing high-quality, stackable, printable 3D terrain tailored specifically for 60mm Hex wargames—which, as any seasoned mech commander knows, makes them perfect for games like BattleTech.

If you look closely at how modern hex maps work, managing line-of-sight and physical elevation with flat paper can turn into a headache. Our modular terrain blocks stack seamlessly to represent different elevation levels clearly, turning flat paper maps into beautiful, highly readable 3D landscapes.

Here's an example we released recently!

Fire Up Your Printers: The LususTech Collection

The physical architecture side of this project lives under the banner of LususTech. We’ve already started uploading STL files, including magnetizable modular hex bases, stackable topographical terrain blocks, and even micro radar transmission tower kits.

Here is what you need to do right now:

  • Head over to Printables.
  • Search for the LususTech collection by Lost Astronaut Studios.
  • Download the files, slice them, and start printing your own tactical battlefields for free. (Though a growing collection of customizable 3D prints are printable for a fee.)
The Grand Plan: This initial batch of hex terrain is just the foundation. We plan to aggressively grow the LususTech library of 3D printable objects all the way through 2026 and deep into 2027, adding more structures, specialized terrain, and tactical scatter blocks to populate your tables.

Key elements:

  • Some prints will be LED-ready for basic lighting and animation
  • We are exploring ways to embed microprocessors to make "smart terrain" as well as terrain that speaks, responds to commands, plays audio, controls servos
  •  All prints can be custom painted, consist of modular parts, and can be used with optional rulesets or fit directly into a Lusus Belli game or a Catalyst Game Labs BattleTech scenario.

Coming Later This Year: Lusus.org

Right now, the 3D assets are out in the wild, but the digital home for the broader wargaming system is still under construction. Late this year (2026), we will officially launch Lusus.org.

This site will become the ultimate hub for the Lusus Belli project—housing the rules, community resources, development updates, and centralizing the growing library of assets.

We want to build a system that honors classic wargaming design while making it modular, accessible, and infinitely customizable. Go grab those STLs, calibrate your printers, and get ready to upgrade your tabletop setup.

Until next time—keep your nozzles clean and your layers stuck!
